About the Role

The Tax Supervisor works collaboratively with clients, partners, and staff to provide comprehensive tax advisory and compliance services. This position is responsible for training and supervising junior staff, reviewing and managing tax engagements (compliance, planning, and research), and maintaining strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders. The role involves directing engagements, supporting managers and partners, and communicating complex tax rules effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all tax compliance, assist with audits, and respond to tax letters.
  • Serve as the primary engagement manager with economic responsibilities for billing, realization, and collections.
  • Leverage technology and resources to maximize technical application on projects.
  • Determine tax objectives, scope, and methodology; participate in client decision-making to assess broader impacts.
  • Manage client engagements with expertise in individual taxation, trust, partnership, corporate, federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns, estimated payments, extensions, and audits.
  • Develop and execute a business development plan, including networking, client expansion, and satisfaction activities.
  • Prepare and review complex tax returns; oversee project management.
  • Research complex tax matters, stay current on tax law changes, and identify and resolve tax problems.
  • Represent clients in tax notices and audits.
  • Monitor tax legislation developments.
  • Prepare internal memoranda, written correspondence, private letter rulings, and documents for IRS or Treasury Department submission.
  • Assist in firm recruiting and client development goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • 5–7 years of public accounting tax experience (preferred).
  • CPA license (required).
  • Experience preparing individual and business tax returns.

  • Proficiency in tax software, MS Office, or similar tools.
  • Strong supervisory, training, and mentoring skills.

Work Environment

This role is conducted in an office setting, primarily seated while working on a computer. Must occasionally exert up to 20 lbs. of force. Some travel may be required.

Schedule

Typically Monday through Friday, 8 AM–5 PM. Additional hours are required during peak season.
