Supervisor Coach with Security Clearance

About the Role

Provide deck plate supervisor coaching and mentoring to improve productivity, drive schedule adherence, and maintain safety and quality standards. This position is located at Huntington Ingalls in Newport News, VA, with a salary range of $130K-$150K per year.

Responsibilities

• Coach supervisors on ensuring work is properly staged, communicated, and briefed to assigned workers.
• Set clear expectations for work progress in half-shift increments and lead workers to take ownership of output and outcomes.
• Define backup tasks and expectations in case primary tasks cannot meet required progress.
• Ensure supervisors set clear expectations for workers to communicate barriers, challenges, and progress on a half-shift basis.
• Ensure work site conditions and support (services, instructions, tools, equipment) are ready for workers.
• Increase supervisor's deckplate presence and effectiveness to ensure progress is on track.
• Coach on problem resolution, including paperwork, tooling, equipment, as-found conditions, and materials.
• Ensure work package documentation requirements are maintained.
• Identify productivity improvement opportunities and communicate them to functional owners.
• Attend meetings with supervisors, providing coaching on preparation, listening, and response.
• Cover deckplate presence when supervisors are occupied with mandatory tasks.
• Spend at least 4 hours daily on the deckplate.
• Ensure smooth handoffs to successor shifts and supporting trades without delay.
• Coach the supervisor's superior (General Foreman / Area Superintendent) on supporting supervisors and sustaining coached behaviors.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience in an industrial environment within the shipbuilding / ship maintenance industry.
• Minimum 5 years of 2nd level management experience in an industrial environment within the shipbuilding / ship maintenance industry.
• Must be a US Citizen with a secret security clearance.
