About the Role

Direct and supervise the marine workforce, facilities, and equipment for the safe and efficient transfer of materials between vessel and dock at the marine terminal. Direct and supervise rail activity, including loading and unloading vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Study receiving or shipping notices, requests for movement of raw materials and finished products, and space availability to develop schedules for material handling activities.
  • Operate various types of terminal equipment (loaders, material handlers, haul trucks, excavators).
  • Confer with supervisors of other departments to coordinate the flow of materials or products.
  • Verify or prepare records such as routing slips, material requisitions, and job orders.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Interpret job orders to workers and assign duties.
  • Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintain time and production records.
  • Perform activities of workers supervised.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work around barge, river, and marine operations.

Requirements

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
  • Minimum of five years of successful work experience in the terminal industry, specializing in the stevedoring of vessels.
  • A minimum of three years in a lead position or higher capacity.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for a diverse workforce.
  • Familiarity with the products, modes of transport, and methods of handling dry bulk materials.
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Job location is in the Cofield, North Carolina area.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Availability to work all shifts and weekends.
  • Periodic response to emergency situations on a 24/7 basis.
