Job Summary
Working leader of the Automation team who supports New Program Development and Operations through the supervision of activities required to develop robust automation solutions. Maintains existing automation equipment and processes along with supporting improvement opportunities while keeping SMC’s business interests in mind.
Responsibilities
- Cost: Research, plan, and develop robust automation processes that are on-time and under budget. Analyze automation equipment and applications to achieve maximum workforce utilization.
- Service: Provide both technical support and the timely delivery of automation solutions to the development and operations teams. Engage with internal and external customers to understand needs. Set priorities and provide direction to the automation team. Provide cost-effective technical solutions to gain competitive advantages in the marketplace.
- Quality/Safety: Provide robust and complete solutions that satisfy quality and safety requirements. Ensure overall team compliance with company policies and procedures through training and periodic review. Analyze manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure they are operating within specification, meet ergonomic standards, and are safe.
- Leadership: Support a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to exceed expectations. Lead cross-functional teams. Provide guidance and support to team members. Perform annual reviews, calibrating performance across the team. Maintain and develop staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees; grow staff capabilities by coaching, mentoring, and providing personal development opportunities.
- Work with all departments required to successfully complete project tasks efficiently.
- Assist in the review and acceptance of new programs and processes into production.
- Research, develop, and implement new technologies that align to business needs.
- Create and present cost justifications supported with data.
- Assign tasks, provide guidance, and align priorities of projects to team members.
- Travel may be required to meet customer needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience supervising technical personnel with a minimum of 5 years’ automation experience, preferably in plastics or medical industries.
- Demonstrated ability to positively motivate team members.
- Demonstrated ability to support employee development on relevant skills.
- Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating, and solving problems.
- Technical skills in automation-related disciplines and methods including PLC programming, Wittmann robots, electrical & pneumatic schematics, EOATs, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite and SolidWorks.
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
- The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
- Physical activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
