Supervisor-Arrhythmia Device Clinic

About the Role

Performs professional nursing, technical and administrative duties as they relate to the Arrhythmia Device Clinic. Performs a variety of functions related to implanted cardiac device management, including implant checks for outpatients, device troubleshooting, and pre-emptive care. Provides assessment, pre-procedural and follow-up instruction and care to patients with implanted devices. Responsible for selecting, training, orienting, evaluating, and direct supervision of staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic tests related to implanted cardiac device management.
• Provides nursing care including wound management, antibiotic therapy, identification of medication interactions, and adverse effects under supervision of cardiologists.
• Provides assessment, pre-procedural, and follow-up instruction and care to patients with implanted devices.
• Responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment quality control and inventory management.
• Performs pacemaker parameter testing and remote monitoring, including calculation of data and recognition of potential life-threatening cardiac irregularities.
• Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies and recognizes cardiac arrhythmias according to established protocols.
• Applies the scope of nursing practice defined in the standards of practice and professional performance.
• Provides direct care and delegates aspects of care to other members of the healthcare team consistent with their level of preparation.
• Leads and directly supervises Arrhythmia Device Clinic staff members; implements and maintains training systems for staff.
• Administers policies and procedures according to established best clinical practices under the supervision of cardiologists.
• Maintains, troubleshoots, and operates Arrhythmia Devices to ensure operability and safety; calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to support a healthy work environment and ensure a culture of safety.
• Participates in shared governance, working toward common goals through clinical practice, education, research, and performance improvement.
• Teaches and counsels patients and their families about cardiovascular disease, self-care management, procedures, risks, benefits, and medications.
• Prepares written documentation such as evaluation of results, individualized treatment plans, and progress reports.
• Assists in selecting, training, orienting, and evaluating staff; prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
• Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
• Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; assists cardiologists as required.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required); Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
• 2 years of cardiac experience, including EKG and physiologic monitoring, and experience in electric countershock techniques (required).
• Licensed Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Multi-State License (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications (required).
• Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (preferred).
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (preferred).

• Ability to handle patients presenting in a variety of conditions.
• Leadership qualities and ability to function as a team member.
• Knowledge of cardiology and electrophysiology.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of cardiovascular pathophysiology.
• Ability to identify rhythms on a 12-lead EKG and lethal arrhythmias 100% of the time.

Schedule

Full Time: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday day shift.
