Supervising Electrical Designer

About the role

As an Electrical Engineer IV in our Chicago, IL office, you will represent the firm in client, contractor, architect, and project-team interactions, supervise and coordinate project assignments, and lead electrical system design.

Responsibilities

• Provide trade-specific electrical system design, including layout, calculations (using appropriate software), and coordination with architectural, internal, and external engineering trades.
• Participate in trade organizations and prepare presentations.
• Manage CAD/BIM and other technical staff assigned to specific projects or tasks as directed by senior engineers or designers.
• Assist with employee reviews as requested.
• Estimate construction costs and evaluate feasibility using Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM).
• Write engineering proposals under the direction of a senior engineer or designer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Electrical (or Mechanical/Plumbing) discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in the MEP field, with a history working on Critical Facilities projects.
• EIT certification required; PE or alternate certifications (e.g., CPD, CEM, NICET & NFPA) preferred.
• Ability to make proper system selections with or without supervision.
• Understanding of other trades’ work and coordination.
• Thorough knowledge of applying LEED principles to building design.
• Expertise in trade-specific design and calculation software.
• Strong dispute resolution skills.
• Ability to prepare redlines for CAD personnel, read/review/evaluate floor plans, sections, elevations, and visualize three-dimensional building construction.
