About the role
The Gwinnett Solicitor-General’s Office is currently accepting resumes for a Supervising Assistant Solicitor General in the Recorders Court Division assigned to Traffic Division.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Assistant Solicitor Generals in the courtroom to ensure the orderly process of case management, handle complex and difficult cases, and try assigned case(s) in Recorders Court
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, process employee concerns and problems, direct work, counsel, and complete employee performance appraisals
- Assist and supervise in developing trial strategy; organize opening and closing arguments; present evidence at trial
- Draft accusations; evaluate and research potential defenses; dismiss cases that are not prosecutable, as needed
- Evaluate cases submitted by law enforcement; read police reports; determine whether further investigation is needed; approve or return cases for more work; research alternative crimes; read and research case law
- Work with Recorders Court team to coordinate witnesses and evidence for trials; gather and label evidence
- Interview law enforcement officials, witnesses, victims, experts, and others regarding cases
- Through leadership and example, influence Assistant Solicitors Generals positively by promoting consistency in sentencing recommendations, timely completion of discovery, assistance in duty officer calls, good working relationships with staff, and productive morale among legal staff
- In the absence of the Solicitor General or Chief Assistant Solicitor General, be present in the courthouse or immediately available
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
- At least three (3) years of previous experience that includes litigation and criminal law, with an emphasis on prosecutorial work or comparable felony trial experience
- Ability to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills
- Commitment to serving the community and working with the public
