Supervising Assistant District Attorney- Child Abuse Sex Crimes Bureau

About the Role

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Bureau (CAS), within the Special Victims Division of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, investigates and prosecutes all felonies and misdemeanors involving adult sexual assault, child sexual and physical abuse, and child homicides. The Bureau collaborates with the Bronx Child Advocacy Center (BXCAC) to conduct investigations in a manner that reduces trauma to child victims and their families. The Supervising Assistant District Attorney will oversee the Bureau’s legal and professional staff, supervise case investigations and prosecutions, and assist in the general administration of the Bureau, including implementing best practices, developing in-Bureau trainings, and coordinating trial assignments.

Responsibilities

• Supervise legal and support staff in the prosecution of cases in the Child Abuse/Sex Crimes Bureau.
• Collaborate with the Bureau Chief, Deputy Chiefs, and other CAS Supervisors to develop and implement strategies for effective investigation and prosecution of adult sexual assault, child physical and sexual abuse, and child homicide cases.
• Develop and administer best practices and policies; screen, evaluate, and assign cases to legal and professional staff.
• Advise and assist legal staff in handling assigned cases, including analysis of applicable penal law offenses and criminal procedure.
• Prepare case status and statistical reports, and manage staff scheduling as needed.
• Serve as the Daily On-Call Supervisor (rotational schedule among Chief, Deputy Bureau Chiefs, and Supervisors), including nights and weekends; supervise and handle on-call Assistant District Attorneys’ response to new arrests and investigations.
• Serve as faculty for the Office’s CLE Trainings, Orientation Training for new Assistants, Grand Jury training, and Felony and Misdemeanor Trial Training programs.
• Collaborate with outside agencies such as NYPD, ACS, the Bronx Child Advocacy Center, Adult Squad Co-located Center, Bronx hospital-based programs, and Corporation Counsel.
• Attend intra/inter-Office weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings as required.
• Motivate and direct all levels of legal and professional staff in various responsibilities.
• Manage own case assignments and investigations.
• Perform all other related duties and projects as designated.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• At least 5 years of prosecutorial experience required.
• Supervisory and/or management experience preferred.
• Expertise and knowledge in Child Abuse and Sex Crimes strongly preferred.
• U.S. Citizenship and New York State Residency required as of the first day of employment.
• Member in good standing of the NY State Bar; must provide an original current certificate of good standing.

$150,000.00 – $188,000.00
