Superintendent of Water & Sewer Systems - Trunk Main Manager

About the role
The Distribution Engineering Unit in the Bureau of Water & Sewer Operations is seeking to hire a Trunk Main Manager. Reporting to the chief of Distribution Engineering, the selected candidate will oversee the Supervisors of Mechanics in the Trunk Maintenance unit. They will provide direction related to trunk main operations, direct machinist Supervisors on the proper operation and maintenance of trunk mains and appurtenances, provide direction to the Citywide Maintenance Unit, and be responsible for coordinating the maintenance and repair of all in-city regulators, as well as making recommendations on corrective actions when low pressure or volume problems exist. Additionally, they will provide direction to Trunk Maintenance Staff for Water Supply and low-pressure-related Emergencies, and provide direction necessary to maintain water pressure above 20 psi at all times, including during peak demand and during shutdowns of mains during periods of construction.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Supervisors of Mechanics in the Trunk Maintenance unit.
- Provide direction related to trunk main operations, including proper operation and maintenance of trunk mains and appurtenances.
- Direct the Citywide Maintenance Unit.
- Coordinate the maintenance and repair of all in-city regulators.
- Recommend corrective actions for low pressure or volume problems.
- Provide direction to Trunk Maintenance Staff during Water Supply and low-pressure-related emergencies.
- Maintain water pressure above 20 psi at all times, including during peak demand and shutdowns of mains during construction.
Requirements
- Eight years of full-time experience acquired within the last ten years in the construction, operation, repair, or maintenance of water supply distribution, sewer and/or drainage systems, four years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above may be considered, but all candidates must have four years of supervisory or managerial experience.
- Possess a Motor Vehicle Operator's License valid in the State of New York.

Pay
$146,843.00 per year.

- New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
