Superintendent - Geosciences
About the role
Lead the technical direction of Geosciences across Kennecott's surface and underground portfolio, shaping decisions that underpin safe, sustainable, long-term value. Build and develop a multidisciplinary team across geology, geotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, and Resources and Reserves while influencing major growth opportunities. Support Kennecott operation's next chapter of growth and mine life extension based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Reporting to the Manager, Integrated Planning, this role is accountable for providing the geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and Resources and Reserves foundations that enable safe, risk-informed and value-focused decision-making across surface and underground operations. The role will strengthen technical assurance, governance and capability while supporting future growth opportunities.
Kennecott is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation — including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery — located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. The operation produces copper, precious metals (gold and silver), molybdenum, and sulfuric acid, and has been mining the Bingham Canyon ore body since 1903, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
Rio Tinto is a leading global mining and materials company operating in 35 countries, producing iron ore, copper, aluminium, critical minerals, and other materials needed for the global energy transition. With 150 years of mining experience, the company's purpose is finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs — striving for innovation and continuous improvement to produce materials with low emissions and to the right environmental, social and governance standards.
