Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear and concise site logistics, lifting, hoisting, deliveries and site access plan.
  • Inspect construction activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
  • Know, understand and consistently enforce Vaughn’s safety program and OSHA rules.
  • Provide technical assistance, e.g. interpretation of drawings, recommended construction methods and equipment, etc. as required.
  • Actively coordinate trade and associated installations in advance to mitigate conflicts due to sequencing, constructability, schedule and/or spatial issues.
  • Review plans, specifications, general notes and shop/working drawings for assigned activities prior to performing assigned duties.
  • Promote positive communication among employees and works as a team with project management, QA/QC and safety coworkers.
  • Aid project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
  • Create and sustain a positive company image.
  • Aid in effectively training assistants and workers to adhere to policies/procedures, submittals, schedules, contracting and motivate assistants to uphold core values by leading through example.
  • Develop professional relationships with client and design team to ensure project is delivered successfully.
  • Ensure all on-site personnel comply with the project procedures.
  • Exhibit strong organization skills to ensure projects are completed on time.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of time sheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports and labor projections.
  • Ensure work performed follows company policies and procedures.
  • Work integrally with project management team on status reports, and labor and material projections.
  • Develop and maintain schedule to ensure coordinated and timely installations. Ensure schedule is followed or changed if necessary.
  • Aid project management team in development and implementation of an effective job site communications plan.
  • Communicate often and clearly with the team.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a project superintendent with a construction management-at-risk, hard bid, or design-build contractor, overseeing multiple projects with per project value in excess of $10 million.
  • Experience with healthcare, higher education, and/or laboratory projects with a commercial general contractor preferred.
  • Experience with self-performing work in excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry.
  • Profitable project track-record.
  • Beat-the-budget self-perform labor track record.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of construction (technology, equipment, methods) and safety.
  • Solid leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Email, PDF.
  • Ability to meet or beat project schedules.
  • Ability to effectively control and supervise large groups of craft workers.
