Superintendent - Civil / Water / Wastewater
About the role
This is more than a project role. It is an opportunity to help build and shape a growing regional program with the backing of an established and strong company. Responsibilities
- Lead on-site execution of water and wastewater and other civil construction projects, managing field operations, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, sequencing, and schedule execution from mobilization through closeout.
- Lead day-to-day field operations for assigned projects.
- Cook up complex schedules, subcontractors, and high-risk activities.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, owners, inspectors, and regulatory stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve field constraints, constructability issues, and production impacts proactively.
- Maintain field documentation including daily reports, inspections, RFIs, and change tracking.
- Support quality planning, inspections, punch list execution, and project turnover activities.
- Develop Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel through coaching and leadership.
- Contribute to estimating efforts.
- Identify and build strong client relationships and support repeat business opportunities.
Requirements
- Strong field leadership and operational execution experience.
- Ability to coordinate complex schedules, subcontractors, and high-risk activities.
- Collaborative leadership style with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and client service.
- Experience 5-10+ years of field supervision experience with increasing responsibility.
- Experience leading civil, water, wastewater, utilities, or infrastructure-related construction projects.
- Demonstrated success providing overall project site ownership and leading self-perform operations, subcontractor coordination, safety, and schedule execution.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED required; Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent field experience preferred.
- OSHA 30 strongly preferred/required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Skills
- Proficiency in Procore.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Navigational ability with Primavera P6 and/or MS Project; experience with Bluebeam.

Tarlton offers competitive compensation packages tailored to individual performance and experience.
Schedule
Primarily on an active project site; frequent walking of work areas and coordination with crews and trades. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), exposure to weather and loud environments, and lifting/moving of 25-50 lbs. Work hours may vary by project and may include early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends. Travel is required. Projects will primarily be within the southeast Iowa and central Illinois region, with flexibility and readiness to support work outside the market as needed. Travel to and from St. Louis for initial onboarding and then as needed.
