About the role

The Superintendent’s primary responsibility is to be on-site overseeing the construction of building enclosure renewal projects on a day-to-day basis, ensuring implementation of the project according to RDH’s high standards of professionalism.

Pre-construction

  • Work with RDH’s design team as required to review building enclosure details for constructability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Have input into the project planning.
  • Create schedules with the Project Manager and prepare the site for start of construction.

Construction

  • Ensure site is opened in the morning and secured at the end of workday.
  • Maintain on-site documentation, including site instructions, contract changes, safety records and daily job-site logs.
  • Avoid schedule breaches.
  • Maintain site safety.
  • Provide first aid cover as required.
  • Coordinate, control and motivate trade contractors.
  • Ensure contractors are completing their scopes of work as per the project manual and to the highest standard.
  • Coordinate and control the progression of the work.
  • Ensure scope of work is completed by trade contractors.
  • Work closely with the technical team to implement design and design changes.
  • Liaise with RDH Project Manager contact daily while on site.
  • Help with flow of information from trades to RDH office.
  • Review and approve progress on fixed costs and additional costs.
  • Aid in keeping project on budget.
  • Keep a daily log and email it to the Project Manager daily. Log must document in detail items below:
    • Weather
    • Trades working on site
    • Description of work underway
    • Deliveries
    • Safety review of work site twice daily
    • Incident reports

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma/GED required.
    • College degree preferred.
    • 5-10 years of construction-related experience.
    • Experience with renovations of residential or commercial projects would be an asset.
    • Experience as a skilled tradesperson would be an asset.

    Skills and Competencies

    • Ability to conceptualize details and anticipate constructability issues.
    • Effectively communicate with trade contractors, building occupants, and technical/design team.
    • Highly motivated and works well independently, but is also team-oriented.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and commitment to well-constructed projects.
    • Excellent planning and scheduling skills.

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    • Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles.
    • Often loud noise levels.

    Work Environment

    • Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles.
    • Often loud noise levels.
    • May be required to complete Health and Safety training prior to going to a work site.
    • When not on site, the employee is expected to work in a typical office environment and work closely with other staff members.
    • Projects are often handled by members in various service areas and the office affords them the opportunity to meet and work on tasks together.

    Benefits & Perks

    • Base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000 annualized for a full-time role.
    • You may also be eligible for discretionary incentives and share ownership.
    • We offer a robust benefits package to support the well-being of our employees.
    • This includes: GRSP/401K contributions, Health and Dental coverage, Primary Caregiver benefits, Vacation and Sick Time, Statutory Holiday substitutions, and a learning fund of $1,000 per year for education or career goals.
    • This position also offers a $400/mo car stipend.
