About the role

Under immediate supervision, for a period of six to twelve months, this position involves structured classroom and on-the-job training focusing on various facets of Agency-wide activities and operations related to tax processing. The role includes receiving assignments of a routine nature in specific phases of the tax examining process, completing a combination of classroom and on-the-job training in tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, research methods, communication skills, and computer usage/concepts. After successful completion, the trainee will qualify through promotion to fill targeted vacancies as a Revenue Tax Specialist I.

Responsibilities

  • Receive structured classroom and on-the-job training involving various facets of Agency-wide activities and operations relative to the processing of all types of taxes.
  • Complete assignments of a routine nature in specific phases of the tax examining process.
  • Complete a combination of classroom and on-the-job training in tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, research methods, communication skills, and computer usage/concepts.
  • Receive basic technical training in specialized operations to assist in priority situations.
  • Qualify through promotion to fill targeted vacancies as a Revenue Tax Specialist I after successful completion of the on-the-job and classroom instruction.

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree or 8 years supportive tax-related experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to profit from training received and become knowledgeable about the various tax laws and regulations enforced.
  • Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
  • Ability to absorb and understand a variety of information regarding the development and utilization of tax analysis techniques.
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply quickly and accurately without a calculator.
  • Ability to learn the utilization of computer software and equipment.
  • Able to obtain and/or convey necessary information in a tactful and diplomatic manner under difficult conditions.
  • Maturity and stability to make personal adjustments as necessitated by work assignments, job pressures, and demands.
  • Ability to converse and communicate clearly with taxpayers and their representatives.

Qualifications

Pay

Salary amounts shown are only to be used as a guide; actual salary will be determined at the time of hire based on current salary plans and/or collective bargaining agreements, if applicable.

Schedule

Work hours: 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
