Summer School-Age 2:1 Intensive Counselor

About This Role

This Summer School-Age 2:1 Intensive Counselor position at Mary Johnson Children's Center in Middlebury, VT offers $19 – $23/Hr. Candidates should bring relevant professional experience and a reliable work ethic in a childcare facility environment.

What You'll Do

• Supervise the child continuously to ensure their safety, implement safety protocols to prevent elopement, and support communication using alternative methods such as communication tablets.
• Document the student's day for the family and summer camp staff.
• Provide 2:1 support to the child at all times.
• Absorb and assist with bathroom use, including changing diapers as needed.

Requirements

• Demonstrate your ability to work as a team, maintain the safety of the student, and manage elopement behaviors.
• Extensive experience supporting students with higher needs is essential.
• Assistance with diaper changing and pool supervision are requirements of this role. You will be required to enter the pool with the student on a daily basis.
• This position requires a high level of reliability, patience, and physical ability to respond quickly when needed.

Proffered Qualification

• Experience in a special education setting.
• Training in CPI and safety care or similar crisis intervention programs.
• Familiarity with nonverbal communication systems.

Requirements

• You must meet specific education and/or experience requirements.
• You must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
• Experience with escalation techniques and strong situational awareness, along with the ability to remain calm under pressure, are key requirements for this role.
• Student supervision at the pool and general student supervision require a high level of attention to detail and situational awareness.

Nice to Have

• You will work closely with a student who requires additional support, but you will still be part of a collaborative team and have opportunities to build relationships with other children.
