Summer Intern - Cryptography and Security

About the role

• Perform fundamental research in data security and write peer-reviewed scientific papers
• Create formal analyses, new algorithm designs, or prototype implementations that advance the field of data security
• Present work to colleagues within Seagate and at external conferences
• Learn about and contribute to an understudied but fundamental pillar of the Internet, AI, and data science fields
• Collaborate with experts around the globe, both Seagate-affiliated and outside
• Join an exciting cohort of students in a wide array of fields, including computer science, chemical & mechanical engineering, and biology

Qualifications

• Familiarity with principles of cryptography and systems security is essential
• Experience with provable security analysis in game-based or UC models
• Programming skills in one or more languages such as Rust, Go, C, C++, or Python
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people (teamwork)
• Current MS or PhD student in computer science or a closely related subject, enrolled and returning to Fall 2027 classes

Pay

Estimated base wage range: $29–$45 per hour (based on work location, skills, experience, and education/training).

Schedule

Benefits are based on a 24 to 40‑hour‑per‑week schedule for a full calendar year.

Location: Shakopee campus, 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis; overlooks a horse racing track and stables, with nearby entertainment venues, ample space for running, biking, basketball, volleyball, on‑site fitness center, café with fresh foods and specialty coffees, and many restaurants minutes away. Travel: none.
