Summer Day Camp Counselor, Norman YMCA

About the role

As a Summer Day Camp Counselor at the Y, you're providing a safe, welcoming environment for kids in your community to reach their full potential. You're the perfect fit if you love kids, want to spend your summer having fun, and know the importance of creating a space where children can thrive physically, mentally and socially.

Responsibilities

• Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
• Establish a positive relationship with each child.
• Develop positive relationships with parents and staff.
• Develop weekly activities for a group of 12 children.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all children. This includes ensuring children apply sunscreen and stay hydrated.
• Know where all group members are at all times.
• Lead games and activities.
• Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up.
• Take daily attendance and see that each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day.
• Actively engage children and participants in activities.
• Perform daily count of meals and snacks served.
• Report all injuries and incidences to the Director or Coordinator.
• Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
• Required to Swim at least two times per week.

Requirements

• Must have an interest in and like children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
• Must exemplify and support and support the philosophy of the YMCA.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be 16 years of age.
• Must be certified in CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
