Summer 2027 Powder Processing Engineering Intern

About the role

2027 Powder Processing Process Engineering Internship at ATI Specialty Materials, located in Monroe, NC (Baker’s South). Open to graduate and undergraduate students currently pursuing Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering disciplines. The program runs for 10 weeks during Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Create and analyze seeded heat compacts using BPO materials to support an updated fingerprint database.
• Develop a process to limit open‑air dumping of revert powder from screening to VIM.
• Support implementation of the auto‑feed program in screening to improve process efficiency and consistency.
• Analyze process and material data to identify opportunities for quality and process improvement.
• Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement practical improvements to powder processing operations.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Interest in powder processing, materials manufacturing, and process improvement.
• Ability to analyze data and evaluate process performance.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Engineering and Operations teams.
• Willingness to work in a manufacturing and plant environment.
