Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or otherwise eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

About the role

CesiumAstro’s hardware team is seeking Summer 2027 interns to develop HDL‑level FPGA systems for satellite communication platforms. Interns will work closely with engineers through all phases of FPGA circuit and system development, including design, verification, testing, and deployment. Projects may involve high‑speed serial interfaces, digital processing cores, multiple clock domains, and management interfaces, with a strong emphasis on testing, validation, and verification. Interns regularly present their work to peers, mentors, and executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement FPGA HDL modules for high‑speed serial interfaces and data streams.
  • Develop digital processing cores and manage multiple clock domains.
  • Create and execute verification testbenches using tools such as ModelSim or Vivado.
  • Perform laboratory testing with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Validate and verify FPGA designs against system requirements.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and verification coverage.
  • Present progress and results to peers, mentors, and senior leadership throughout the internship.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering at an accredited university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
  • Advanced coursework in FPGA design, analysis, and implementation at the HDL level.
  • Practical experience designing and building FPGA systems through research projects, competition teams, extracurricular activities, or advanced coursework.
  • Proficiency with FPGA design and verification tools (e.g., Verilog/VHDL, HDL Coder, Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim).
  • Hands‑on experience with lab instruments such as digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, and vector signal analyzers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in digital signal processing.
  • Background in board‑level hardware design.
  • Advanced coursework in communication systems.

Compensation

All CesiumAstro internships are compensated competitively and are located onsite at one of the company’s facilities.
