Summer 2027 Construction Management Intern

About the role

We’re seeking motivated and high-performing students to join our Field Operations team for Summer 2027 in Overland Park, KS. This internship offers dynamic work, giving interns exposure to real-world field operations functions, processes, and projects. Interns will work on impactful projects, collaborate with professionals across departments, and participate in networking events with peers and company leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to coordination of gas construction with commercial and industrial customers.
• Assist in preparation of estimates for construction and maintenance of new and existing gas distribution systems.
• Provide information and assistance to customers, contractors, public works officials, employees and others concerning construction activity, job orders, billings and other related issues.
• Confirm when specific jobs are ready to be scheduled by ensuring that all pre-requisites are satisfied and approve for crews to be assigned.
• Provide job status and information on next jobs in the event of an unexpected delay.
• Support Pre-requisite Management to ensure project pre-requisites are coordinated within a specified time frame. Pre-requisites may include but are not limited to:
  • Pre-site inspections
  • Order flaggers
  • Order line locates
  • ROW and material requisition permits
• Participate in on-going status updates with applicable departments to ensure a seamless transition of workload including, by exception, the transfer of a job back from Field Operations to work coordination.
• Coordinate site pre-inspections to ensure work readiness, as applicable.
• Utilize drafting computer and/or hand draw information including but not limited to:
  • Engineering drawings
  • Highway/railroad crossing permits
  • Right of way drawings
  • Pipeline alignment/site/profile drawings
  • Maps
  • Property plats
• Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
• Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, preferably graduating in December 2027 or May 2028.
• Enrolled at Kansas State University or Pittsburg State University.
• Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Involved in extracurricular activities, community service, or leadership roles.
• Experienced through prior internships, part-time jobs, or volunteer work.

Schedule

• Projected internship dates: Tuesday, June 1, 2027 – Friday, August 5, 2027
• Hours per week: 40
