Suicide Prevention Coordinator (SPC)
About the role
A Suicide Prevention Coordinator supports customer activities. They lead, develop, and integrate suicide prevention initiatives across Special Operations Forces (SOF) units. The role involves providing clinical support and contributing to the readiness, resilience, and psychological well-being of service members and their families.
Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in meetings during normal duty hours, professional staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities.
- Review applied research and incorporate best practices into suicide prevention policy, programming, and initiatives across their Component.
- Apply social work procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, and evidence-based therapist, in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological and neuropsychological disorders.
- Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts as required.
- Participate in military-specific training/activities and others as directed by the unit Commander or his/her designee.
- Provide clinical supervision of unlicensed providers or trainees.
Requirements
Education: Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) or equivalent (MSSW, MSSA) degree from a graduate school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of clinical social work services.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years peer-reviewable clinical social work experience in a mental health setting. Experience working in a government setting such as DoW or VA MTF is preferable.
