About the role

The SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) Field Technician III plays a crucial role in accurately designating, documenting, and mapping utilities in both rural and urban settings. This position demands advanced technical skills, leadership abilities, and strong coordination with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Designate utilities using geophysical equipment
  • Perform field surveys, document projects, and conduct vacuum excavation for utility exposure
  • Collect data and complete vault diagrams for 3D QL-B mapping
  • Lead 2D and 3D QL-B mapping projects with up to two crews
  • Oversee vacuum excavation and backfilling under complex conditions
  • Cookordination with clients, field crews, office staff, project managers, utility owners, and service providers
  • Operate geophysical and survey equipment for utility mapping
  • Use RTK GPR and total stations for accurate horizontal and vertical data collection
  • Collect vertical data for gravity flow systems using levels
  • Prepare Structures Data Reports and analyze utility plans and records
  • Maintain required safety certifications and ensure adherence to safety standards

Requirements

This role is ideal for experienced SUE professionals who thrive in dynamic environments, are skilled at leading field operations, and enjoy opportunities to travel as part of their work. Previous experience as a lead on SUE QL-A & QL-B field crews and previous role as a project-level field supervisor on SUE QL-A & QL-B projects are preferred. Surveying experience is also beneficial.

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of SUE field experience preferred
  • Experience as a “lead” on SUE QL-A & QL-B field crews required
  • Previous role as a project-level field supervisor on SUE QL-A & QL-B projects preferred
  • Surveying experience preferred
  • Military experience is a plus

Skills

  • Advanced technical expertise in geophysical and survey equipment
  • Leadership in the field
  • Coordination with clients, utility owners, and service providers
  • Ability to operate RTK GPR and total stations for accurate data collection
  • Proficiency in preparing Structures Data Reports and analyzing utility plans and records
  • Strong safety and compliance practices

Pay

Salary range: USD $25.00 per hour to USD $40.00 per hour
