Qualifications
- Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist Licensure, Moderate to Intense Preferred
- Evidence of successful teaching
- A commitment to working with students with significant cognitive disabilities (MD unit) with functional communication and adaptive behavior deficits
- Willingness to attend professional development activities that improve skills in working with high needs students
- Willingness to directly supervise classroom paraprofessionals providing continuous training, support and feedback
- Seeking creative initiatives in ways to help student attain their maximum potential
- Willingness to work closely with other school personnel
Responsibilities
- Applies individualized behavior strategies with consistency and fidelity
- Design and monitors FBA/BIP interventions for disruptive behaviors
- Designs an educational program that supports the learning needs of students with high needs in the areas of: Functional communication to facilitate access to their environment; Adaptive behavior to facilitate access to less restrictive environment; Promote individualized educational growth and development; Balance needed for strong structure and flexible responsiveness
- Facilitates flexible and individualized instructional delivery that incorporates functional communication training and applied behavior analysis components
- Maintains a safe, orderly, caring, and inviting learning environment by adhering to standards for conduct, interaction, and engagement; and fair and equitable policies and procedures
- Designs and implements program schedule that maximizes the effectiveness of classroom staff and resources
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
- Accepts a share of responsibility for the co-curricular activities as assigned
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required
- Makes modifications and accommodations of the classroom environment for the student with a disability in the regular and special education classroom
- Reports to and carries out any other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal
