About the role
To continue the educational programming at the highest possible level in the absence of the regular teacher or support staff.
Responsibilities
- Report to the school at least half an hour before school opens or as early as possible after being notified.
- Report to Building Administrator or School Administrative Assistant(s) to receive assignment, other duties, and substitute forms.
- Review and follow teacher's plans and materials.
- Maintain order in assigned classes and assist in supervising all students.
- Maintain student respect for school property, fellow students, and staff.
- Take attendance promptly in each class, and report any student not accounted for to the office.
- Leave significant information summarizing the day's activities.
- Notify the office immediately of any injured or ill student.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Check with the office before leaving; leave completed forms with the office staff.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- Ability, interest, and flexibility in working with young people.
- Able to report to the school on short notice and teach regularly planned lessons.
- To communicate and cooperate with students, community, and school personnel.
Physical Demands
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling.
- Lifting 25–75 pounds, depending on student needs.
