Substitute Teacher (Grades 1–12)

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) is a friendly and vibrant urban K–12 school serving approximately 300 students in Denver, Colorado, with the Rocky Mountains just a short drive away. Founded in 1974, DWS is a fully accredited member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS).

About the role

Substitute Teachers provide classroom instruction during planned and unplanned teacher absences, helping ensure continuity in student learning and maintaining a positive, engaging classroom environment. Assignments may include a variety of grade levels and subject areas and may range from single-day to longer-term placements. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with students of different ages, able to follow lesson plans and classroom routines, and enjoys contributing to a collaborative school community.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction for students in Grades 1–12 during planned and unplanned teacher absences.
• Follow lesson plans and classroom routines provided by the regular teacher.
• Create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
• Supervise students and maintain appropriate classroom management.
• Support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being throughout the school day.
• Communicate effectively with school administrators and faculty regarding classroom activities or concerns.
• Adapt to a variety of grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
• Uphold school policies and maintain professionalism at all times.

Requirements

• Experience teaching or working with school-aged children.
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and engage students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A flexible, dependable, and collaborative approach.
• Knowledge of Waldorf education is preferred but not required.
