Substitute Teacher- Early Childhood Education

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and flexible Substitute Teacher to provide a positive and supportive environment for young children. In this role, you will maintain a strong emotional connection with students, ensuring they feel safe and engaged. You will follow prepared lesson plans, adhere to childcare licensing standards, NAEYC standards, and Texas Rising Star qualifications, and assist in meeting the developmental needs of children. This is an important role for maintaining the continuity of care in the classroom and ensuring that the children receive a consistent, nurturing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide a positive classroom environment where there is a strong emotional connection between students and the teacher.
• Follow prepared lesson plans that meet the developmental needs of children, ensuring age-appropriate activities.
• Maintain and follow childcare licensing standards, NAEYC standards, and Texas Rising Star qualifications.
• Learn and implement practices for assessing children’s developmental progress, utilizing that information to support student growth.
• Actively engage with children, fostering a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can explore.
• Address children’s challenging behaviors calmly and respectfully, promoting self-regulation.
• Participate in regular program meetings, training sessions, and SEARCH staff meetings.
• Maintain a respectful and nurturing atmosphere where students feel valued and cared for.
• Ensure all activities and classroom interactions are aligned with the program’s standards and best practices.

Requirements

• Must pass the required FBI background check to supervise young children.
• Previous experience working with children in an early childhood setting is preferred.
• Ability to adapt to different classroom environments and follow lesson plans effectively.
• Understanding of child development and the ability to foster a positive, supportive environment for young children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build connections with children and staff.
• Willingness to learn and adopt the organization’s practices and methods for assessing children’s developmental progress.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a classroom environment for extended periods.
• Must be able to sit, stand, and move around the classroom as needed to interact with children.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
