The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled, is seeking a Substitute Teacher. The position involves designing and implementing appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, analyzing learning styles, and coordinating behavioral support plans.

About the role

This role requires a professional license and a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or a Missouri Teaching Certificate. The successful candidate must maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications as specified by MSSD.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement appropriate IEPs for students with disabilities.
  • Analyze student learning styles and adapt teaching strategies.
  • Select age-appropriate, functional, and safe activities, materials, and equipment for teaching.
  • Attend and participate in IEP team and special education meetings.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of behavioral support and communication systems.
  • Create and follow a time-efficient daily schedule for students' IEPs.
  • Maintain a safe environment and follow special health care procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff information.
  • Follow MSSD policies and guidelines.
  • Assist with daily self-care needs of students as required.

Requirements

Must maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications as specified by MSSD. The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law, and other qualifications and experience may be considered.

Qualifications

Eligible to be issued and subsequently receive a Missouri Substitute Teacher's Certificate by documenting a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or a Missouri Teaching Certificate.
