Pay

Position Daily Rate Teacher (1-10 consecutive days) $110.00 Teacher (11-20 consecutive days)* $125.00 Teacher (21-89 consecutive days)* $145.00 Long Term Substitute Teacher $145.00 Virginia Certified Teacher $200.00

* Full rate for a workday of over 3.75 hours; half rate for a workday of 3.75 hours or less. Must be consecutive days (you must commit to working 4 days per month to be considered an active substitute).

About the Role

Teaching the assigned subject and enabling each student to pursue his/her education in the absence of the regular teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the school.
  • Reviews with the designated school representative the lesson plans and schedules to be followed.
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Teaches the lesson plans outlined by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, during lunch and in other activity periods.
  • Maintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all times.
  • Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
  • Follows all policies, rules and procedures.
  • Remains in the building or on school grounds during the hours assigned as a substitute.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old, with preference given to persons 21 years old or older.
  • Possess good moral character.
  • Hold a high school diploma with a preference of two years of full-time secondary education or two years of work experience with children.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer.
  • See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
