Substitute Teacher

About the role

This position serves as an on-call/substitute teacher to ensure continuity in the classroom during the absence of the regular teacher.

Responsibilities

• Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
• Provide a classroom environment that promotes active learning.
• Aid the teacher in all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
• Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
• Adhere to all Walla Walla Public Schools board policies and procedures.
• Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Requirements

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
• Experience working with children preferred.

• Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
• Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
• Skill in classroom management, student discipline, and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
• Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
