About the role
The Substitute Teacher is an educational professional who replaces regular teachers for a short period of time (e.g. a week, or month) or longer in certain cases. The Substitute Teacher will ensure the lesson plan is followed and the classroom is managed according to the standards of the division and school.
Responsibilities
- Study and follow the established curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the permanent teacher or Division Director
- Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods) to encourage participation of students
- Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises and additional resources
- Assign classroom work and homework as appropriate
- Take attendance according to School policy
- Grade students' assignments and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain neat, clean and safe class environment for students
- Support Division and School through other assigned duties on a daily basis
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day
- Participate in curriculum development programs as required
- Participate in faculty committees and mentoring student activities as required
- Attend after school activities and events as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field from accredited university
- A minimum of three to five years of teaching experience or commensurate experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with integrating technology into the classroom (e.g., Microsoft Office, SMARTBoard, etc.)
- Proven adaptability to new and evolving technology, ability to demonstrate innovation and vision related to the efficient processing of information related to this role
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
- TRAVEL: Occasional overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required for special events.
Pay
The rate of payment for substitute teaching is $120.00 per day for a full day and $80.00 for a half day.
