SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

Substitute Teachers are needed for both short-term and long-term assignments as needed and assigned by the Campus Principal.

Pay

• Non-certified Substitute Teacher
  • Short-term Assignment: $80.00/day
  • Long-term Assignment: $90.00/day
• Certified Substitute Teacher
  • Short-term Assignment: $100.00/day
  • Long-term Assignment: $110.00/day

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; some college hours or associate degree
• Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
• Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Experience managing groups of students, providing instruction, or related work experience

All new substitute teacher applicants are required to attend a Substitute Teacher Academy. Academies are held several times throughout the school year. Visit the Human Resources page at www.lcisd.net for additional information and academy dates.

Responsibilities

Instructional Strategies

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the absent teacher or designated staff
• Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
• Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curriculum for students as needed or noted in lesson plans

Student Growth and Development

• Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of campus and school district

Classroom Management and Organization

• Submit attendance reports
• Implement a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
• Manage student behavior in accordance with the lesson plans, Student Code of Conduct, and student handbook
• Supervise students at all times
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintain a clean and orderly classroom and follow the classroom and school procedures as directed by the school
• Leave notes or complete the approved substitute teacher report form at the end of the teaching day
• Report any accidents or incidents

Communication

• Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards students, parents, staff, and administrators

Professional Growth and Development

• Participate in substitute training and activities to improve job-related skills
• Comply with all state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers

Additional Responsibilities for Long-term Assignments

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required
• Implement lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student needs
• May be required to develop and prepare lesson plans
• Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
• Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
• Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
• Participate in substitute training and staff development activities to improve job-related skills
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings

Physical Demands

• Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Frequent walking
• Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
