Substitute Teacher

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Substitute Teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for up to 14 hours per week at our center near Portland, Oregon in Camas, Washington. The substitute is called as needed when staff are out sick, but may decline if unavailable on a particular day. No teaching certification or formal teaching experience is required; we will provide all necessary training.

Regina Caeli Academy (RCA) is a classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition, offering instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays. Childcare/nursery is provided.

Responsibilities

• Teach in a classical and Catholic classroom environment
• Follow provided curriculum and grading guidelines
• Manage classroom instruction according to RCA standards
• Attend one mandatory training day prior to working in the classroom (August 11, 12, or 13, 2026, 8am–5pm; no childcare provided, nursing babies welcome)

Requirements

• Must be living the Catholic faith day-to-day, including having received all sacraments appropriate to his or her state in life
• Must be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church
• Must have a deep love for the Catholic faith
• Must pass a background check and complete RCA Safe Child training prior to teaching
• Must be available to work Mondays and Thursdays 8:45am–3:15pm during the academic year
• Undergraduate degree

Qualifications

The ideal applicant may have experience in one or more of the following (though not required):

• Homeschooling or working with homeschool children
• Ministry in a Catholic parish
• Teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes
• Teaching your own children
• Teaching in a classical or private school

Strong communication skills, good organization, timeliness, and a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship are preferred.

Pay

$18.00 to $20.00 hourly

Schedule

• Part-time, up to 14 hours per week
• Mondays and Thursdays, 8:45am–3:15pm during the academic year
• No additional vacation days (accommodations made for sick days as needed)
