Position Compensation

$21.97/hr

Job Purpose

Affords support to teachers in the care and instruction of pre-school children and fosters their social, physical and mental development.

Position Responsibilities

• Assists teachers and program staff in planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and parents, interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person, and preparing correspondence, reports, records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
• Shares teaching responsibilities with a Teacher I or IIS.
• Serves as an interpreter for parents who do not speak English, when possible.
• Assists in conducting teacher-parent conferences.
• Maintains records of attendance, achievement and other required paperwork, both manual and digital.
• Organizes and maintains instructional and program supplies.
• Sets up classrooms for various purposes and takes down classrooms at shared sites.

Qualifications

• A responsible adult who likes working with children and a team player with a positive attitude and good organizational, time management and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills desirable.
• Minimum of 6 months - 1 year working experience with pre-school children, preferably in a Head Start program.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Show proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment.
• Life scan must be associated with California Community Care Licensing.

Education

Less than 60 days Sub Assistant Teacher Permit or 6 ECE units License/ Credential/ Permit

Certificates

• CPR/1ST Aid Certificate
• Valid California Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance
• Covered by COVID vaccination requirement; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those needing a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately.
• Proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment.

Physical Demands

• The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
• The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a pre-school environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment.
• Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for on-going periods occurs regularly.
• Lift and carry at least 35 lbs or more.
• Maintain visual of children, hear, communicate, speak, comprehend, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull, activities indoor and outdoor as needed in an environment with children and adults.

Special Requirements

• T.B. Test within the past year prior to employment, and every four (4) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray).
• Must provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Influenza.
• Representative physical demands of the job include: normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
