About the role
Maine Township High School District 207 is seeking a Substitute School Registered Nurse to begin with the 2026-2027 school year.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direct supervision of the certified school nurse to provide health care services to students.
- Adapt to and implement special measures needed to support students returning from absences.
- Screen students' physical complaints and take appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with the school social worker to assess physical symptoms related to abuse and stressful situations.
- Collaborate with special education staff to support students with disabilities who have medical needs.
- Administer and record prescribed medications, perform basic first aid, and assist in maintaining health office supplies.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Certified School Nurse and document all services, interventions, and communications.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other healthcare professionals to support student health and well-being.
- Perform health assessments, provide health counseling, and guide students on personal care, hygiene, and wellness.
Qualifications
- Current registration in the state of Illinois as a registered professional nurse.
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's degree in a health-related field preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required or obtainable upon hire.
- First Aid certification required or obtainable upon hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic health care practices, emergency response, and student wellness.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and assist with office and health room operations.
- Ability to work collaboratively under the supervision of a Certified School Nurse.
- Patience, compassion, and the ability to respond calmly in stressful or emergency situations.
- Familiarity with basic assessment skills, including vision, hearing, and vital signs monitoring, preferred.
