About the role
To promote academic success and provide optimal nursing care to the entire school community.
Responsibilities
- Performs school nursing services under the supervision of the School Nurse Leader consistent with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines in addition to the local school district policy.
- Provides assessment and medical care for students and staff in the case of injury or illness as needed.
- Maintains appropriate documentation including electronic school health records, daily logs, medication administration, accident/incident report, and special needs encounters.
- Integrates health education in daily practice.
- Identifies the needs of students and staff and teaches health promotion and disease prevention as needed.
- Provides health education and counseling on an individual basis as needed to students, staff, and parents.
- Demonstrates and applies current nursing knowledge in school practice.
- Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
