Substitute - School Nurse

Reports to: Nurse Coordinator

About the role

Nursing staff help provide a healthy and safe atmosphere in which to promote learning in accordance with district policies and procedures. This department abides by all state, federal, and district policies and procedures and is constantly aware of programs or actions that might need to be implemented for the environmental protection of students and staff. The nurse identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.

Responsibilities

• Assists school health committee and administrators in developing the school health program.
• Participates in the work of the health curriculum committee.
• Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing, and scoliosis screening.
• Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
• Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
• Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
• Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and provides medically prescribed services.
• Maintains security of school health supplies and records.
• Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
• Participates in in-service training programs.
• Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and parent communications.
• Meets applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
• Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or Executive Director of Elementary Education.

Requirements

• Licensed from the State of Missouri.
• Experience as a school nurse is preferred.
• Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
• Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, time management, and telephone skills.
• Computer knowledge and assistive technology proficiency.
