Substitute Positions Kodiak Schools

Requirements

• Applicants must be at least 18 years or older.
• A background check is required.
• An online substitute training is necessary.
• An in-person or virtual orientation is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission of the Kodiak Island Borough School District.
• Carry out all directives from District Administration.
• Comply with all applicable laws, Board Policies, and Administrative Regulations of the District.
• Demonstrate and facilitate respect for individual and cultural characteristics.
• Maintain a learning environment where all students are actively engaged and contributing members.
• Maintain a safe environment in accordance with the school handbook and established emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Pay

• FY27 Pay Rates:
  • Substitute Preparedness:
    • High school diploma or equivalent: $180.00/day
    • Two or more successful years of college: $188.44/day
    • Bachelor's degree or higher or Valid teaching certificate from out-of-state: $196.35/day
    • Valid Alaska teaching certificate: $225.00/day
    • Retired KIBSD teacher (with valid AK teaching certificate): $450.00/day
  • Long-term subs for more than 20 consecutive days:
    • Bachelor's degree & valid Alaska teaching certificate: $250.00/day
    • Master's degree & valid Alaska teaching certificate: $300.00/day
    • Retired KIBSD teacher (with valid AK teaching certificate): $468.00/day

Schedule

• Daily rate is based on a seven hour-teacher day.
• A substitute will be paid a 2-hour call-out fee if they arrive for an assignment and it is canceled without prior notice, or if they select an assignment for two (2) hours or longer and return before completing the two (2) hours, and there are no other vacancies to be placed in.
