Substitute Food Service Helper

About the role

To assist in the preparation and serving of quality food to students in a quick and pleasant manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with quantity food preparation.
  • Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.
  • Sets up and breaks down serving lines (salad bar, hot food, ala carte, etc.).
  • Operates cash register and prepares reports regarding students’ lunch accounts.
  • Counts money, makes change, completes related reports, and may bring money bags to the Robins Administration Offices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Previous experience with large-scale cooking and food preparation/serving.
  • Able to attain Safe Serve Training upon hire.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to pass an entry-level aptitude test.
  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand.
  • Frequently bends or twists while performing job duties.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion (e.g., operating a cash register).
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds (e.g., milk crates, frozen foods, canned food).
  • Requires close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally works in temperatures above 100°F and walks on slippery surfaces.
  • Must meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers.
  • Noise level is frequently loud, requiring raised voices to be heard.
  • Greater than average risk of minor injuries such as cuts or burns.

Pay

$14.18 per hour (on-call as needed).
