Substitute Elementary Playground Supervisor - 2026-2027
About the role
The purpose of Elementary Playground Supervisors is to help children observe meal-time and playground courtesies and rules of safety. They also relieve teachers of noon supervision responsibilities and ensure them a duty-free lunch period, contributing indirectly but significantly to the effectiveness of the total classroom instructional program.
Responsibilities
- To supervise lunchrooms, outside eating facilities, playgrounds, and other areas as assigned by the school Principal.
- To be alert for and to report conditions hazardous to the health and safety of children.
- To enforce the school rules concerning proper behavior of children.
- To maintain a firm but respectful and courteous attitude toward children. Elementary Playground Supervisors may administer no corporal punishment.
- To supervise noon play activities.
- To dress appropriately. The appropriate dress code for teachers is also appropriate for elementary playground supervisors. Whistles are provided but should be used sparingly.
Public Relations
- As an employee of the West Contra Costa USD, an Elementary Playground Supervisor is conscious at all times that he/she represents the schools while off-duty as well as while on-duty.
- Under no circumstances should a noon supervisor ever discuss a child’s behavior with a neighbor or another parent.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Intent to Hire Letter from school site in need of your service - you must obtain before submitting your application.
- TB Clearance
- Proof of COVID Vaccination
- Professional References - must provide email address for each reference - no family or personal friends are acceptable
