Substitute Custodian

Responsibilities

• Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, parking lot, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
• Take note of all situations which might be considered hazardous to the safety and well-being of students and staff. Correct the situation (if possible) and report the situation to immediate supervisor as soon as possible;
• During inclement weather, shovel, blow, salt or put sand on walks and parking areas to promote the safety of students, staff, and patrons;
• Strive constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and staff;
• Display the United States flag in an appropriate manner;
• When closing the building, determine (before leaving) that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for security reasons, are turned off;
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are working properly during the hours of building occupancy;
• Clean, spot mop, and buff hallways;
• Clean and mop classroom and restroom floors;
• Sweep hallways and classrooms;
• Check restrooms and clean / disinfect as needed;
• Maintain tissue and paper towel availability in all restrooms;
• Keep the building and grounds free of debris;
• Empty trash;
• Set up gymnasium / all-purpose room for assemblies, sports events, and other activities;
• Keep custodian closet clean and neat;
• Perform such other duties as assigned by supervisor or building principal.
