Substitute Custodian

About the role

The Assignment Type is Temporary/Hourly. Hours will vary by assignment. Pay Rate for 2024-2025 is $24.10 per hour, starting at $24.70 per hour in 2025.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an assigned area of responsibility and perform all necessary housekeeping and preventive maintenance tasks to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and the community.
• Perform all housekeeping and preventive maintenance tasks with the physical capabilities required.
• Get along with students, staff, and the public, and assist with activities in a multicultural environment.
• Have a proven and known record of very good attendance and outstanding work performance in custodial or related duties, and possess the background and knowledge or education to perform the duties.
• Communicate effectively using the English language, including evidence of effective spoken and written use.
• Meet the physical requirements for the position, including the ability to lift 40-50 pounds on a regular basis, climb ladders to reach roofs and attics, and work effectively in tight quarters.
• Be willing to work flexible hours and perform other duties as directed by the head custodian or building administrator.
• Have high recommendations from a reliable source and good references to be considered for an interview.

• Possess well-developed communication skills, including evidence of effective spoken and written use of the English language.
• Meet the physical requirements for the position; ability to lift 40-50 pounds on a regular basis; ability to climb ladders to reach roofs and attics; and able to work effectively in tight quarters.
• Be willing to work flexible hours.
• Be willing to perform other duties as directed by the head custodian or building administrator.
• Have high recommendations from a reliable source and good references to be considered for an interview.

Working Conditions

• The work is performed both inside and outside the buildings and requires considerable walking sometimes on slippery surfaces at various times of the year.
• The work is of a manual nature and requires the ability to walk, bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand for long periods, twist, reach, push and pull, use far and near visual acuity and lift weights from ten to fifty pounds unassisted to shoulder height.
• The work may cause exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, and dust.
