Kitsap Regional Library is seeking a dynamic, customer service oriented person who has the flexibility to work as a Substitute Courier to ensure a smooth flow of library materials and supplies between all nine branches of the Kitsap Regional Library system.

About the role

Under general supervision, performs a wide range of Facilities Department functions to support internal and external Kitsap Regional Library services. This substitute position fills in for regular employees on an as-needed basis and does not guarantee a set number of hours.

Responsibilities

  • Transport library materials to and from various locations and outside agencies.
  • Operate a hand truck to load and unload materials.
  • Sort and deliver correspondence and other items to divisions as necessary.
  • Transport monies between branches and/or delivery to the Treasurer's Office.
  • Clean and fuel vehicles. Perform minor maintenance such as checking and adding oil and other fluids.
  • Perform regular and routine safety inspections. Monitor and report routine service and repair needs.
  • Clean, repair or resurface damaged discs.
  • Process incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Make special deliveries or pickups.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks including: using a personal computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, copier, telephone or other equipment, preparing routine correspondence, filing and other tasks.
  • Provide back up support in the absence of other department personnel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of driving experience or equivalent training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the requirements of the job.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and safe driving record.

Skills

  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish priorities, organize and work effectively with Kitsap Regional Library staff.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and utilize computer software and specialized programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and representatives of all branches.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles safely.

  • Continuous: seeing, talking, hearing, grasping, handling and manual dexterity.
  • Frequent: sitting, walking, carrying, twisting, squatting, reaching, kneeling, bending, keyboarding, standing for long periods of time and repetitive motion of hands/wrists.
  • Occasional: crawling, stooping, climbing and balancing.
  • Frequently lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds regularly and, occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds (averages approx. 200 times per day).
  • Regularly push, pull and maneuver a loaded book cart (20 pounds of push/pull force) on a frequent basis, over an extended period of time.
  • Use small hand tools.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $19.66-20.26 per hour. Offers will be determined based on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.

Schedule

This is a part-time, non-exempt substitute position with no guarantee of hours. The schedule will be determined by the supervisor upon hire and may include weekends and evenings. Substitute Couriers work out of the Bremerton – Sylvan Way branch, driving to all nine KRL locations. The schedule may include up to a maximum of 69 hours in a month.
