Substitute - Cooks

We are looking for a reliable and flexible Cook Substitute to join our team. This role is essential for maintaining our high standards of food quality and service during staff absences or peak periods.

About the role

As a Cook Substitute, you will step into various kitchen environments within our district, ensuring that meal preparation and service continue smoothly. You will work in different school kitchens, adapting quickly to each site's specific recipes, procedures, and team dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
• Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Assist with inventory management, including receiving and storing food supplies.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace.
• Adapt to different kitchen environments and workflows as needed.
• Collaborate with permanent kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
• Assist with special events or catering as required.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a cook, preferably in a school, institutional, or high-volume setting.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices (ServSafe certification is a plus).
• Ability to follow recipes and prepare meals in large quantities.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work in different locations and adapt to varying kitchen environments.
• Reliable transportation to travel between sites.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Availability to work on an as-needed basis, including early mornings and occasional evenings or weekends.

Schedule
