Substitute - Bus Operator

About the Role

The professional school bus driver plays a unique, vital, and complex role in today’s educational environment, with responsibilities to multiple segments of society, including federal and state governments, the State Department of Education, the Lincoln Parish School Board, the Superintendent, the Transportation Department, school principals, students, and parents.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport assigned students to and from school.
• Report regularly and punctually within the time framework established by the Transportation Department.
• Notify the Transportation Office immediately of impending absence, tardiness, or mechanical failure.
• Establish proper techniques and follow discipline procedures as established by the State Department of Education and the Lincoln Parish School Board.
• Complete accurately and timely all reports and records as directed, including those required after an accident, for absences, or for special purposes.
• Maintain good public relations with students, parents, and school administrators; avoid parent conferences or confrontations while on the route, and arrange alternative meetings if needed.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and mechanically safe vehicle in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Accurately record and report appropriate mileage for all designated routes.
• Conform to Louisiana law concerning the safety and welfare of assigned pupils.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of and conformity with state and local traffic laws and local governing motor vehicle operations.
• Notify the Transportation Department immediately of all accidents or serious incidents, including those involving the driver’s private personal vehicles.
• Check the bus for students accidentally left on board at the conclusion of all routes.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation and the Superintendent of Lincoln Parish Schools.
