Primary Function

The Substitute Teacher supports the School and the Diocese of St. Augustine in their mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher must embody the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and adhere to Catholic moral strictures.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistently with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Absorb and apply Catholic principles in both professional and personal life, ensuring adherence to Catholic morals and values.
  • Model Gospel values through active participation in faith communities and maintaining a personal faith journey.
  • Participate in and assist with School religious and service activities.
  • Prepare lessons aligned with academic and religious curriculum objectives, effectively communicating with students.
  • Evaluate student progress consistently, clearly, and effectively using methods directly related to curriculum objectives.
  • Manage classroom learning and materials to enhance student productivity and motivation.
  • Establish and enforce a consistent disciplinary approach promoting self-direction and positive self-image.
  • Work collaboratively with School and Diocesan administration, fostering positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Attend scheduled faculty trainings and meetings.
  • Enforce School policies and regulations, maintaining confidentiality and displaying sound judgment in behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of and strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
  • If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church; if not, must abide by Catholic principles.
  • Excellent communications skills, including written and oral, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible; capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Available for evening and weekend work as needed; must have reliable transportation.
  • Proficient in computer technology, including word processing and related software; willing to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexible in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
  • Complete a criminal history and background check.

Professional Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Certified by the State of Florida as a Teacher preferred.
  • Physical/Mental Requirements: Coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
  • Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
