About the role
We are seeking a Substation Test Technician to work with our testing team at construction sites within the continental US. The individual will perform functional, relay, and SCADA testing in utility-level substations, including equipment acceptance testing, relay and protection scheme testing, SCADA system testing, troubleshooting, and equipment inspections at vendor facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform functional, relay, and SCADA testing in utility-level substations.
- Conduct equipment acceptance testing and relay/protection scheme testing.
- Test SCADA systems and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Inspect equipment at vendor facilities.
- Communicate clearly in written, oral, and email formats to resolve issues with team members.
- Professionally represent the company with clients, owners, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Push issues to resolution and work self-motivated.
- Read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
- Research and self-teach unfamiliar subject matter.
- Perform switching and grounding in energized substations.
Requirements
- Minimum Associate's degree in Electrical Technology/Engineering preferred or equivalent industry experience (5+ years).
- 3-5 years of experience working in or testing substation equipment.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, IEEE, NETA, etc.).
- Understanding of testing for equipment types noted above.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office, SEL, TapTalk, Doble, RTS, Adobe, and others as needed.
- Travel: 75% average.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to work in challenging ambient conditions (outdoors, hot/cold temperatures, loud noises).
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials up to 60 lbs.
- Must be able to work in elevated positions.
- May be exposed to energized equipment.
- OSHA 10-hour certification.
- NFPA 70E Training.
- FA/CPR Training.
