Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Work around energized high voltage substation and transmission equipment up to and including 345KV.
- Install, maintain, and repair breakers and transformers.
- Perform switch and clearance orders as instructed by dispatch.
- Conduct general substation maintenance and repairs.
- Perform infrared testing and interpret equipment readings.
- Monthly inspections on transformers, breakers, relays, batteries, generators and other equipment.
- Construct new substations and modify existing ones as needed.
- Pull and terminate control wiring in control houses and substation equipment.
- Support 24-hour operations by assisting with standby and callout duties outside of regular work hours.
- Some travel to remote system facilities with overnight stays.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work is conducted in energized substations, switch yards, and generating plants.
- Majority of work is performed outdoors with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
Pay
Pay Range: (Depending on qualifications and experience)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Up to Two years of relevant experience.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
- Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Crane Operator or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire.
- Ability to complete the Garland Power & Light Apprentice Substation Technician Program.
