About the Role
The Substation Superintendent supervises and assists with the day-to-day activities of substation employees and the project to which they are assigned, reporting directly to the Project Manager. The role requires the ability to perform duties ranging from Groundman to Leadman.
Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and execute the project plan to schedule and ensure compliance with budget.
- Supervise and coordinate all construction activities.
- Track and communicate weekly project reports and generate a 3-week look-ahead.
- Ensure project materials and workmanship meet project quality standards and design requirements.
- Initiate and conduct project meetings with staff and management as necessary.
- Review and address plan details, resolving issues before they result in added budget expenditures.
- Advise the Superintendent of potential problems, work interferences, or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing/resolving such conflicts.
- Enforce site-specific plans and procedures aligned with EEI’s culture and safety requirements.
- Review and submit weekly timesheets to payroll for processing.
- Maintain the project’s daily job diary.
Requirements
- Minimum working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and internal operational systems.
- Ability to apply basic engineering principles to construction challenges.
- Ability to visualize the entire project and anticipate constructability issues, embedding solutions in construction plans and schedules.
- Ability to schedule, monitor, and forecast resources for optimum efficiency.
- Ability to manage others and multiple facets of the construction project while assuming responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid State Class A driver’s license and/or a valid commercial driver’s license.
- OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment, routinely requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work may occur in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
- Physically active role with lifting required; must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Precise hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
