Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in substation design, HV/MV systems, P&C, SCADA, and power delivery (T&D).
- Ensure engineering designs (one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring schematics, protection schemes, equipment layouts) meet IEEE, NEC, NESC, and company standards.
- Lead large-scale substation and infrastructure projects (greenfield/brownfield, AIS/GIS), managing scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
- Perform engineering reviews of permit applications, design packages, and technical specifications for compliance.
- Drive business development and project execution for electrical infrastructure, T&D, and grid modernization initiatives.
- Lead client presentations, technical proposals, and stakeholder meetings, including scope definition and risk assessment.
- Support long-term strategy and pipeline development for power delivery and electrical engineering services.
- Ensure profitable project performance through margin management, cost control, and schedule adherence.
- Develop and update annual business plans, forecasting models, and tactical initiatives.
- Interface with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to address engineering challenges.
- Maintain engineering discipline certifications (PE licensure, NERC compliance) and industry best practices.
- Conduct workforce planning and capability gap analyses to align expertise with grid reliability and resiliency goals.
- Lead engineering discipline meetings, providing updates on technical standards and substation innovations (e.g., digital substations, IEC 61850).
- Serve as a liaison with utility clients, EPC firms, and OEMs.
- Develop and manage proposals, scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates for substation projects.
- Analyze technical reports and engineering documentation to support decision-making.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, protection, commissioning) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentor staff in substation design, P&C, power systems, and project delivery best practices.
- Stay current on emerging technologies (grid modernization, digital substations, BESS, renewable integration, smart grid).
- Exercise ethical decision-making aligned with corporate governance and safety culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field (Power Systems focus preferred).
- 12+ years of experience in electrical engineering, substation design, and infrastructure development for power generation, T&D, or utility/EPC environments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License (multi-state preferred).
- Proficiency in power systems analysis, relay protection & control (P&C), grounding, short circuit analysis, load flow studies, and coordination studies.
- Experience with AIS/GIS substations, HV/MV systems, bus configurations, transformer sizing, and equipment layout.
- Knowledge of electrical codes (IEEE, NEC, NESC), OSHA/NFPA safety regulations, and permitting requirements.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, interpret drawings, and apply sound engineering practices.
- Leadership skills to guide mid- to senior-level staff and ensure QA/QC adherence.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, regulators, and executive leadership.
- Proficiency in engineering software: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, Revit, ETAP, CAPE, CYME, PSCAD, SKM PowerTools, WinIGS, Inventor, and Excel-based modeling.
- Commitment to workplace safety, including OSHA standards and job hazard analysis (JHA).
