Substation Protection and Control Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking a Substation Protection & Control Engineer to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12kV up to 500kV. The position involves interfacing with local clients, partnering with a variety of utility clients nationwide, and working on projects ranging from distribution to transmission levels.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control projects
• Use knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to design substation electrical projects
• Comply with quality control and safe work practices
• Work with client standards to implement design
• Interface with other disciplines such as substation, telecom, and civil structural
• Complete project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and implementation
• Provide construction support
• Apply minimum requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code to design processes
• Perform quality control checks on wiring design

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with 2+ or more years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience
• Experience in executing substation protection and control projects
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with clients
• Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
• Collaborative and leader who can work effectively in a team environment
• Self-starter who works independently with minimal direction
• Strong analytical skills and proven problem solver
• Strong computer competency
• Willingness to travel to project and/or client sites

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with 4+ or more years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience
• Senior-Level: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree with 4+ or more years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience
